Emerson Network Power UPS Systems to Protect LDeX Colocation Clients

Emerson Network Power selected to prevent loss of power at London Data Exchange facility, LDeX1

London, 2nd February 2012 – London Data Exchange (LDeX), providers of network independent data centres, have today announced that they will be using Emerson Network Power’s Chloride 80-NET UPS systems to help guarantee power availability to their colocation clients at the LDeX1 data centre in North London.

In partnership with Emerson Network Power, LDeX have designed and implemented a power configuration that will deliver redundant power feeds on completely separate distribution paths, delivering clean, efficient, regulated and dual protected power to every client server rack in the facility using an N+N design.

LDeX1, London’s newest colocation data centre, will accommodate up to 450 server racks from April 2012. In order to host business critical server and telecommunications equipment effectively, LDeX required a solution that would guarantee power delivery in any event, return maximum efficiency and be as scalable as client capacity demanded.

To meet this need, LDeX engaged with Emerson Network Power, a global leader in maximising availability, capacity and efficiency of critical infrastructure, and following several site visits and continuous scenario modelling with the Emerson team, developed a solution which met all requirements.

Patrick Doyle, London Data Exchange COO comments;

“If LDeX didn’t have a quality back-up power protection design in place this could have disastrous consequences for our clients and their businesses.  More simplistic redundancy options were available to us such as N+1 configuration and single feeds to all client equipment, or the more robust N+N dual supplies from 2 independent strings of UPS.

What we have ended up with is even better. Following expert advice from Emerson Network Power we are now implementing a 3-string UPS system delivering ‘N+N’ dual power to each rack. Our view is that redundancy shouldn’t be a cost option within a colocation facility.  At LDeX, total redundancy is the standard layout and we’re sure our customers will feel more comfortable locating their core equipment within such an environment.”

As the facility develops, the modular and scalable design will grow to protect 2MW of utility power at the facility, which is also backed up by diesel power generation.

Emerson Network Power’s partnership with LDeX will continue after the installation. The Chloride 80-NET’s advanced diagnostics, efficiency and the Service Level Agreements will provide LDeX with ongoing support 24/7/365 to meet London Data Exchange’s own commitment to their clients.

Emerson Network Power’s advanced remote monitoring Chloride LIFE.net, will provide a second layer of protection to LDeX’s 80-NET UPS providing advanced notice of arising issues and suitable engineer deployment.

Kevin Harris, General Manager UK Product Sales, Emerson Network Power says:  “We are delighted to be working with LDeX on the provision of a secure power solution for their new North London data centre. We fully understand the critical nature of the application and designed a scalable N+N system using our proven Chloride 80-NET 200kVA/200kW units.  The Chloride 80-NET UPS, which is accredited for Enhanced Capital Allowance, is inherently very efficient even at partial loads and the three string design actually allows LDeX to make better use of the UPS’s available power, improves efficiency further and reduces CO² emissions. Further Chloride 80-NET units can be added in parallel as load demand grows. Coupled with our 24/7 service capability and Chloride LIFE.net remote service monitoring we believe this solution offers LDeX and its customers the most reliable and energy efficient solution available”
